Waiting for licorice

Growing spices
January 14, 2010

Pruning licoriceGrowing licorice is easy, but requires patience.
The roots can't be harvested until the third year of growth... this means this autumn for my plants.

Every winter licorice leaves and stems die, but roots continue to grow and propagate.

Pruning licoriceI just have to prune it, cutting away the dead stems.

I admit I bited a cutted stem and... yes, it had a light licorice aroma!

I would never have thought that licorice grew on a plant! I always thought it was just some random flavor that they put in Twizzlers. Thanks for the info! You grow so many interesting things.
