January gardening tips: Indoor sowing
Rooftop gardening
January 22, 2011
The exciting time of the indoor sowing is arrived: I have chosen many different chili peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, bell peppers and other vegetables.
This is my 2011 sowing: see the 2010 post about chili sowing for the details.
These are the chosen seeds...
The box with the vegetables: bell peppers, tomatoes, aubergines, tomatillo, alchenchengi, cucumbers and some other vegetables.
This is the chili box: you can see the black seed of the Rotoco Pepper: I'm growing a Rocoto plant every year, but I never harvested it since now.
The first to sprout: a Rossa di Rotonda (Red from Rotonda) Eggplant.
The first chili pepper to sprout is the Bishop's Hat, a mild Baccatum uniquely shaped.
I sow all sprouted seeds in plastic pots, under about 5mm of good soil...
… and then I wait for the green hooks to emerge.
The seedlings will grow behind a window, with some extra hours of light provided by a neon, and then they will be transplanted during spring in my rooftop pots prepared during winter.
