(Ita) Ottobre in giardino: il raccolto

Ottobre non è un mese particolarmente indaffarato, le piante annuali hanno terminato il loro ciclo o stanno per farlo, e molte perenni entrano nel periodo di riposo in cui bisogna limitare la raccolta.

Il gigantesco albero di alloro nel mio giardino mi ricorda che le bacche iniziano a essere mature, e possono essere raccolte. Incredibilmente prolifiche, iniziano a cadere per dare vita a numerosissime nuove piantine, che continueranno a nascere per tutto l'anno successivo.

Anche le bacche di ginepro sono pronte per la raccolta, e andranno essiccate all'ombra. Oltre che per il famoso gin, le bacche si possono usare tritate per insaporire molti cibi o intere per dare un sapore particolare a sughi e conserve sottaceto.

In questo periodo si raccolgono anche gli ultimi semi di tarassaco: infilate il soffione in un sacchetto prima di tagliarlo, altrimenti i semi potrebbero disperdersi al minimo tocco. Lasciate arieggiare per qualche giorno, così da essere certi che i semi siano essiccati, altrimenti marciranno.

Dovrebbero essere pronti anche semi di timo, maggiorana e nepetella, ma le mie sono ancora in fiore e non so se riusciranno a andare a seme.
